Miniature Painting Competition

Prize Categories:

  • Small – 25 – 39mm base or smaller.
  • Large – 40mm and up base and Bust models.
  • Open/Diorama – Models that have been sculpted or converted/kitbashed or dioramas.
  • Mech/Vehicle –  Any vehicle, mech, or mechanical construct.
  • BattleTech – Any BattleTech miniature
  • Ripley’s Choice – Any model aligned with our current theme for the year: Through Salt and Storm. The Soonercon staff will select their favorite model as the winner of this category.

Judging/Scoring Criteria:

  • Brush Control (accuracy of brush strokes and paint application)
  • Color Palette (appropriate use of colors for style of miniature you have entered)
  • Use of Advanced Techniques (blending, basing, conversion, etc.)

Best in Show –  $100 cash + $100 Game HQ Gift Card

    Registration Requirements:

    Bring your contest entries to the Art Show and ask for the signup sheet.

    • All participants must have a Soonercon membership.
    • All participants will select a category for each piece when entering the competition.
    • Participants will be allowed to enter one piece per category (small, large, mecha, and open).
    • All participants must have their pieces registered and on display in the Art Show
    • Judging will take place Saturday evening.
    • All participants must pick up their miniatures from the Art Show before 2 p.m. Sunday, June 21.

    Paint and Take

    Take a seat, grab a blank miniature figure and brush, and begin painting. You can take your mini home with you for free!

    In the Soonercon Game Room.

    Friday Noon – 7pm

    Saturday 10am – 7pm

    Sunday 10am – 4pm

    Speed Paint Competition

    In our Speed Paint Competition, competitors each have 45 minutes to complete a figure provided. How detailed can you get?

    Winners can move on to further competition with prizes awarded in each round and winners going to the final event.

    Saturday at 11am, 1pm, 3pm & 5pm

    Three rounds prizes for each: Game HQ Gift Card: 1st $15, 2nd $10

    Final round prizes: Game HQ Gift Card: 1st $30, 2nd $20

    Free to enter in the Soonercon Game Room on Saturday.

     

    Ripley Says

    With Ripley Says you have 45 minutes to paint a miniature, but you have to do it as “Ripley Says.” You may have to stand up or use only green or paint the figure of the person to your left. There’s no telling what Ripley might say!

    Saturday at Noon, 2pm & 4pm

    Sunday at 1pm

    In the Soonercon Game Room. This event is free and you get to keep the miniature.
