Is the Meaning of Life really 42? Does anything unreal exist? Norman local Aaron Bossig asks these questions (and more!) on The Hungry Trilobyte podcast. Aaron believes that science fiction and fandom make real life better, and THP features conversations with our inspirations and our success stories.

All of this is the result of a strange experiment involving a young boy, a stack of MST3K tapes, and a steady supply of microwave burritos. Aaron looks for the ways in which fandom has made our real world better. While this skill cannot, technically, be considered a superpower, it has not stopped him from going cape-shopping on a regular basis. In addition to his podcast, Aaron has also been a contributor on StarTrek.com, TrekMovie.com, and has been a travel correspondent for Star Trek: The Cruise.

Welcome Aboard! Why Crews Become Found Families

Stories set aboard ships often highlight bonds formed through shared danger, isolation, and purpose. These relationships have captivated audiences in fantasy, sci-fi, historical adventure, and modern fiction. This panel explores why the idea of a crew resonates so deeply and why found families remain a powerful force in character-driven storytelling.

Moderator: Aaron Bossig

Panelists: Ash King, Charles Dane Clark, Major Bill Leaf, Tobi Ogundiran

Friday 4:00 PM – 4:45 PM Crimson Boardroom (Hotel Side)

Art of the Spoken Word

The Poetry Slam and Author Readings have merged to form Voltron! OK, maybe just this panel, not Voltron. It works sort of like karaoke and is open to all. There are no panelists, just the moderator. If you want to read a sample of your writing, be that story or poetry, come to this panel and check in with the moderator. Seven will be chosen and have up to five minutes each. The moderator will let each person know when their time has expired.

No Final Frontier: If Star Trek Never Happened

What would the world of fandom look like if Star Trek had never appeared on television? Without “Wagon Train to the Stars,” science-fiction culture might have taken very different paths. This panel imagines an alternate pop-culture history where other series, films, or genres filled that gap. Which stories might have inspired the same generation of fans and shaped conventions as we know them today?

Moderator: Busty Springfield

Panelists: Aaron Bossig, Bat Boughner, ChiiVanna, Kent Cordray
