Rey painted his first miniature in 1984 using Testor's enamel paints. It was painful, and he waited until 1997 to try again. The hobby finally became a passion in 2017. Since then he's gone on to establish the Texas Miniature Artists group, host miniature workshops with instructors from around the world, and now create the Pigment Show.

Your first miniature got painted and on the table! Amazing! Let's keep the momentum going and build on your achievement! In this class, we’ll focus on leveling up your speed painting with a handful of techniques that improve your results without dramatically increasing your time investment. We'll explore some options to add contrast, clarity and life to your miniatures. Through guided, hands-on practice, we’ll focus on fast, repeatable upgrades that deliver maximum visual payoff with minimal extra effort.

Miniature Painting: Color Quest—Keepers of the Sacred Hues

Every great hero needs the right gear, and every great miniature needs the right colors. In this class, you’ll level up your painting confidence by unlocking one of the most powerful skills in the hobby: choosing and using color with intention. Instead of guessing what works, you’ll learn how to build color schemes that support your model, create strong contrast, and guide the viewer’s eye. Through hands-on exercises, we’ll explore practical color theory designed specifically for miniature painters: mixing paints, building simple but effective palettes, and making color choices that help your models stand out on the table or in the display case. Whether you’re new to painting or looking to sharpen your fundamentals, this class will give you a reliable toolkit for tackling any future project. Bring a wet palette, a large hobby brush, and a detail brush. Paints and a class miniature will be provided.
